Obituary: Software engineer Henry Michael Adelman Jr., a software engineer and a former Marine, died Thursday of a stroke at North Arundel Hospital. He was 58.
Mr. Adelman of Severna Park supervised the design of air defense systems for countries worldwide during his 13 years at the Westinghouse plant near Baltimore-Washington International Airport.
In 1964, he went to work at ITTR Research Institute in Annapolis, where he was a project manager for six years. He then became a project manager at Computer Sciences Corp. in Silver Spring. In 1982, he went to Westinghouse.
Mr. Adelman enjoyed country line dancing. He and his wife of 29 years, the former Linda Lucarelli, had been members of the Just Country line dance club in Pasadena.
Mr. Adelman also loved to sail and travel. The Adelmans had covered the Chesapeake Bay during the course of many sailing trips, Mrs. Adelman said.
Mr. Adelman enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1955 and worked in electronics while stationed in such Quantico, Va., Jacksonville, Fla., and other locations. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1959.
A Baltimore native, Mr. Adelman attended area parochial schools. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School in 1954.
He was secretary of the Chess Club and president of the International Relations Club at Loyola College, where he received a bachelor's degree in physics in 1963. He received a master's degree in information systems from George Washington University in 1978.
He was a nations chief at the YMCA Indian Guides in 1978 and was secretary of the Berrywood Community Association in 1982 and a member of the board for the Berrywood Swim and Tennis Club in 1985.
A Mass of Christian burial was to be offered for Mr. Adelman at 10 a.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Church in Severna Park, where the Adelmans have been members for 23 years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Adelman is survived by his parents, Henry and Margaret Adelman of Baltimore; a son, Jeffrey Adelman of Rockville; a daughter, Kristen Adelman of Severna Park; a brother, Charles Adelman of Orlando; and two sisters, Margaret Schaeffer of Barrington, Ill., and Mary Ford of Baltimore.
