Amanda passed away from an accidental fall on February 13th, 1919. [1]
Research Notes
The 1900 US Census shows that Amanda had 10 children but only 9 were still living. This census shows that George and "Jane" have been married for 31 years, giving them a 1869 marriage year. [4]
There is a marriage record for a George Whitt and Mary J. Moore on November 19th, 1874. [5] This would be 5 years after the marriage of George Washington Whitt and Amanda Jane Adkins.
The 1910 US Census shows George W. and Jane in the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Paulina Whitt and James Weddington.
[6]
Because the name of Jane is used, it's not clear enough to establish if this record is for Mary Jane, who also married a George Whitt, or this Amanda Jane. The marriage record for Pauline Weddington to Dallas M. Rambo, however, shows Pauline's parents as George Whitt and Manda Jane Adkins.
[7]
Since the marriage shows that Pauline will be 51 years old on 7 Feb 1936, we can assume her year of birth is 1885 which would be after the marriage year for George Whitt and Mary J. Moore and could rule that marriage out as belonging to the George that married Amanda. An alternate theory could be that Manda is a nickname for Mary, although it is more likely that Manda is a nickname for Amanda.
