Biography

Matthew was born on February 14th, 1878, the son of Blackburn Adkins and Judith Lovejoy. [1][2]

He married Nora Damron about 1906. [3] They had the following children:

  • John, born about 1908
  • Sam, born 2 Feb 1910, died 9 Mar 1960 [4]
  • Mary, born about 1919
  • Virgie Mary, born 21 Dec 1920 [5]
  • Charley, born about 1923
  • Joseph, born about 1925 (the 1930 Census shows 15 years old but he is listed last and it is believed that his age should have been shown as 5 years old.)
  • James, born 9 Mar 1927, died 5 Dec 1927 [6]

Matthew passed away in 1967 and was buried at the Adkins Family Cemetery in Oak Hill, Jackson, Ohio. [7]

Research Note

In the book, "The Adkins Family of Wayne County, West Virginia, Also Cabell, Lincoln and Boone," it mentions that "William Matthew" was born in February 1880, however William B. and Matthew are two separate people. [8] Both brothers can be seen on the same page of the West Virginia Birth Record with William's birth being recorded as February 20th, 1880. [1]
