Elizabeth was born in 1756. Elizabeth Adkinson ... She passed away in 1798. [1]
Elizabeth (Adkinson) Brashear was probably born in Rockingham Co., N.C., and was the d/o John Adkinson of Rockingham Co., North Carolina.
The will of John Adkinson, dated 14 Dec 1790, Rockingham Co., N.C. (Bk. "A", p203) names his children: John Adkinson, Jr., Sarah Loney, wife of Edward Loney (Will Bk. "A" p216-probated 1795 Guilford Co., NC), and Elizabeth Brashear, wife of Zaza Brashear. There was no mention of his wife in his will, probably indicating she predeceased him.
Elizabeth Adkinson married Zaza Brashear, as his first wife, on 09 Jun 1775 in Guilford Co., N.C. with Asa Brashear, as bondsman. Asa Brashear, b. 1745, was Zaza's brother. (See attached copy of their marriage record which unfortunately has no caption or underlings).
The 1790 US Census of Rockingham County, N.C. enumerated the household of John Adkinson and near-by was the household of Zaza Brashear, Sr., his son-in-law [husband of his daughter, Elizabeth (Adkinson) Brashear]. (NOTE: Although not labeled as such, the attached census record is a copy of the above mentioned 1790 US Census of Rockingham County, North Carolina. A captioned and underlined version of this 1790 US Census of Rockingham. Co., N. C. can be viewed on the memorial dedicated to CPL. John Adkinson, father of Elizabeth (Adkinson) Brashear.)
The 1800 and 1810 US Censuses of Rockingham County, NC enumerated the household of a John Adkinson over 45 Y/O. This John Adkinson could have been John Adkinson, Sr., the Revolutionary War Veteran, or his son, John Adkinson, Jr. who was recorded in his 1790 will.
The children of Zaza and Elizabeth (Adkinson) Brashear, Sr. were: 1) Mary Brashear, b. c1776 N.C., m. 26 Aug 1794 Washington Co., TN to James Rankin of Greene Co., TN 2) Asa Brashear, b. 1777-78 N.C., m. 04 Jan 1803 to Elizabeth Linder at Wentworth, Rockingham Co., N.C. 3) Jesse Brashear, b. c1780 N.C., Possibly m. 29 Aug 1797 to Minny Compton at Guilford Co., N.C. 4) John (or Johann) Brashear, b. 1785 N.C., m. 25 Mar 1812 to Celia Whitsett in Rockingham Co., N.C. 5) Zaza Brashear, Jr. b. 1787 N.C.
