Henry Adlong was born 31 May 1890 to parents Otto Carl and Wilhelminnie (Derks) Adlong in Jennings, Louisiana.
In an extract from They Came To Texas; The Adlong, Derks, Sandards, Cox, Calvery, Holder, Hudgins, Garber And Harlan Families[1]:
When Frances married Henry, she was Roman Catholic. Henry told his son, Frank,
"The priest would not marry us in the church period, not even on the front steps of the church. They were married in Grandpa Wolcik's house by a Lutheran preacher[2]. Mama died from Typhoid Pneumonia in St. Joseph's Hospital in Houston."
Frank remembered the ambulance coming to their house to get her,
"It parked in the barnyard. Mama's funeral was held in the Methodist Church in Crosby. She was told as she was dying in St. Joseph's
Hospital that because she had been married outside the Roman Catholic Church, she would not go to Heaven unless she had a priest remarry her and Daddy. She was told on her deathbed that if she didn't, her children
would be considered illegitimate. She did not want to be remarried by a priest, but Daddy insisted, and the ceremony was performed."
According to Frank Adlong,
"Frances' father, Grandpa Wolcik, who was Roman Catholic, was so upset by the situation, he left the Catholic Church."
Frances died from Typhoid Pneumonia. After her death, the children went to live with their grandparents, Otto and Wilhelmina Adlong until Henry remarried in 1926.
After Frances' untimely death in 1921, Henry married his second wife Ella D Lofton on 23 Feb 1926,[3] and had 5 children:
No information can be found to support a child with Frances between 1915 when they were married and 1921 when Frances passed away, much less before 1917 when the WWI Draft Registration was submitted.
The Registrar's report is signed by J.A. Clawson, who is believed to be John Anderson Clawson, Frances' father (Henry's Father-in-law).[11] Is it possible that John and Henry falsified the WWI Draft Registration?
