Biography

Birth and parents : Andreas was born c.1632, probably in Switzerland, and is believed to be a son of Durs Aebi and his wife Margaret.^[1]

Marriage and children : He married Elsbeth Pladt at Sumiswald, Bern, on 11 Mar 1652 ^[2] and was the father of at least eight children born between 1653 and 1670.^[1] Their children, all baptised in Sumiswald, included :

4. Uli b.c.1660 ^[6]
5. Christen b.c.1662 ^[7]
6. Durs b.c.1666 ^[8]

In 1671, a list of Anabaptists who had been exiled from Switzerland, and who had sought refuge in the Dirmstein region of the Pfaltz, included Andreas Abi (age 40) living in Ehrstadt with his wife Elsbeth "Phadt" [Pladt?], and eight children aged 1-18 years. The neighbouring household was occupied by Thurs Abi (age 60), and his wife, Margaret Steiner (age 62) and four children.^[1] It is assumed that Andreas was also a child of Durs and Margaret.
