In 1930 at the age of 24, Maude lived at home on Fairview Avenue, Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA, with her husband, Harry Carpenter, age 37. Harry worked as a decorator for a local hotel. Maude stayed home and took care of the house and children: daughter, Francis Carpenter, age 13; and sons, Floyd Carpenter, age 15; Joyce Carpenter, age 11; and Fred Trewhella, age 4.[2]
In 1940 at the age of 34, Maude lived on Washington Street, Wyoming, Kent, Michigan, with her husband and family: Harry N. Carpenter, age 47, worked in a seating factory as a machinist, while Maude worked as a bookkeeper in a business office. Children at home included: son, Frederick W. Trewhella, age 14; and daughters, Frances I. Carpenter, age 24; and Betty E. Carpenter, 9.[3]
