Biography

Mary Jane Agar was born in 1873 in the townland of Coolnakisha, Co. Carlow. She was the third of eight children of William Agar and Mary Agar (née Harpur). William Agar farmed 97 acres of land in Coolnakisha.

In 1900, Mary married Edward White from Bilbo, Co. Carlow, in St Andrew's Church, Dublin. Her address was given as 3 College Green, Dublin and Mount View, Tullow Road, Carlow.

The witnesses were John Watchorn (possibly Mary's cousin John Watchorn (1866-1934)) and Ruth Hatton (also Mary's cousin, daughter of Mary's mother's sister Sarah).

In 1901, Mary Jane White was living with her parents, her brother James, and her sisters Sarah Anne and Frances in Carlow Rural. Her age was given as 27y.

Mary Jane and Edward White had 4 children: 1. James Samuel White b1901 at Mount View, Carlow 2. William White b1902 at Clogrennan, Co. Laois 3. John White b1904 at Clogrennan, Co. Laois 4. Sarah Jane (known as "Cissie") White b1906 at Bilboa, Co. Carlow

Mary Jane White died at Browns Hill, Carlow, in 1909. Her sister Frances was present.

Mary Jane is buried at Holy Trinity CofI cemetery, Bilboa, County Carlow.
