John Agnew was born between 1852 and 1861 at Drummaul, County Antrim, Ireland. He was the son of Robert Agnew and Mary Ewing. John's family moved to Ballydonnelly in Duneane parish by 1865 and then moved to Bonhill, Dunbarton, Scotland in the 1880s.
In the 1891 Scotland census, John was age 35? living at Bonhill, Dunbarton with his father Robert Agnew (70), mother Mary Agnew (60), siblings Margaret Agnew (25), Robert Agnew (23), Isab Agnew (21), Lizzie Agnew (19), Sarah Agnew (17)[1].
In the 1901 Scotland census, John was age 40? living at Bonhill, Dunbarton with his mother Mary Agnew (70), siblings Margaret Agnew (30), Lizzie Agnew (28), Robert Agnew (26)[2].
In the 1911 Scotland census, John was age 59? living at Bonhill, Dunbarton with his mother Mary Agnew (80), siblings Margaret Agnew (47), Elizabeth Agnew (37)[3].
He was probably the John Agnew who died in 1916 at Bonhill[4]. There is no other death record for a John Agnew in Dunbarton although he might have died somewhere else.
