Biography

Gene was born in Kansas City, Mo., and married Kansas Citian Tonia Morris in Kansas City 51 years ago. They moved to the Los Angeles area a year later. After almost four years of fighting lung cancer, his body gave up. He lived every day doing what he could to help others, being with family and for our other enjoyment. His last day of activity out of the house was Sunday, Aug. 21. It was a typical, full day including a morning movie followed by lunch, then meeting a caregiver (who wound up working for him two days), and attending our Jewish Marriage Encounter meeting in the evening. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Edith Agron, and his brother, Howard Agron, and Howard's wife, Joyce. There are many Agron relatives and Kohn/Oppenheimers on his mother's side of the family who live in the Kansas City area. Tonia's siblings are Bev, Lee and Lyle, and her parents were Sam (with five siblings) and Diane Morris. Gene is survived by his wife, Tonia; children, Lori, Terri (Andre), Brad and Jeff (Rabia); grandchildren, Jennifer Walker, Josh Easley, Rebecca (Jose) Monges, Sara (Chris) Jimenez; and great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Faith and Peyton Monges, and Noah, Jaden and Sierra Jimenez. He also leaves his sister-in-law and spouse, brothers-in-law and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Gene always wanted to "give back to the community," which included involvement in Knights of Pythias, Jewish War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans, Culver City Democratic Club, Adat Shalom Synagogue and Men's Club, and "rolling reader" volunteer at Linwood E. Howe Elementary School.
