James Ahern has Irish ancestors.

James Ahern was found guilty of the crime of abduction (victim Ellen Condon) and was convicted at Cork on 31 July 1844. He was sentenced to seven years transportation but this was later commuted to two years imprisonment[1].

The court records also contained a petition from James's mother, Catherine Ahern. The petition gave his place of residence as Youghal, Cork, and his occupation as shopkeeper.
