Lars föddes den 17 oktober 1868 som son till smeden Hans Ahlgren och hans hustru Magdalena Nilsdotter, Asmundtorp 2. Vid dopet den 25 oktober bars han av hustrun Sissa Andersdotter, Asmundtorp 2. Faddrar: Barnabärerskans make, husmannen Jöran Nilsson, och skolläraren Anders Olsson, Asmundtorp 13.[1]
