Biography

Wilhelm H. Ahring was born on 6 December 1852 in Aschendorf, Saxony, Germany. He was the son of Matheus Ahring and Wilhelmine (Minnie) Grothaus.^[1][2] He later went by the spelling William.

At the age of 16, William and his family moved to a farm near the town of Tea in Gasconade County, Missouri. He resided there the last 72 years of his life.

William married Dorothea Sander (1851-1924) on 30 January 1887 at Swiss, Gasconade County, Missouri. They had six children:

4. Ahring (Mrs. L. W. Block)
5. Ahring (Mrs. E. J. Christy)
6. Ahring (Mrs. J. H. Griese)
7. John Ahring

William worked as a farmer and a public school teacher. He resided on a farm on Rosebud Route just outside the town of Tea.

William passed away at the age of 89 at his residence on 24 April 1942 from "influenza of the bowels".^[1] He was buried at the Salem Lutheran Church cemetery.
