Biography

John Aiken

Notes: from Sharon Danbrook This is a brick wall for me. If anyone has more information I would be very happy to receive it.

1. Most of these sources are speculative. His wife, Anne Jane McKelvy, was a widow in the 1852 census for Oxford County. She had a two year old child. I'm thinking military? Their name is spelled Eiken, but the wife and all children are listed. [1]

2. Death certificate for Isabelle Hope, his daughter, lists his name as father, but doesn't know country of origin. Anne Jane McKelvey and John Aiken are listed as parents on the death certificate of Isabelle E. Aiken (Hope?) Daughter is Francis Elizabeth (Mrs John Ainsborough. From the record: Isabella Hope; Age: 84; Birth Date: 1849; Birth Place: Toronto, Ontario; Death Date: 26 Oct 1933; Death Place: Wentworth, Ontario, Canada; Father: John Aikin; Mother: Ann Jane Mckelvey; Page number178. [2]

3. His first child, Mary Ann Aiken (Potter), (have not found evidence of others) was born at Little York, (Toronto) a military base on Lake Ontario, Entry for grandson, William James E. Potter [3] Further research: The family was very mobile. They were back and forth from Lambton County, Ontario, and St. Clair, Michigan, Toronto, and Oxford County, where his widow had a farm in the 1851 Census for Oxford.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
