Biography
Mary Aiken has African ancestry.
Descendant of John Randall, who was a First Fleet convict of African descent.
Descendant of John AIken, who was a Second Fleet convict of African descent.
Mary Aiken has Irish ancestors.
Mary Aiken was born in the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)
Mary Aiken died young.
Mary was born in 1811 to John Aiken and Frances Randall. She was baptised on 25 August 1811 at St Philips Church in Sydney, New South Wales. In the baptism register, her date of birth was recorded as 9 August 1811. However this date appears to be incorrect (see Research Notes below).[1][2][3]
She passed away in December 1817 at the age of six. Her burial on 9 Dec 1817 was recorded in the register of St John's Church of England, Parramatta. Neither the name of her mother or father appear on her death certificate and there is no insight into the events leading to her death. [4][5]
Research Note
There is some conjecture about Mary Ann's date of birth 9 Aug 1811 because her sister Maria Aiken was born on 4 Dec 1811 to the same mother and father, according to her baptismal record at St Philips Church in Sydney on 10 May 1812.[6][7] Obviously it is impossible that the birthdays of the two sisters could be 9 Aug 1811 and 4 Dec 1811. The baptism dates are probably correct, from their placement in the register. There are 14 days between Mary Ann's birth and baptism, while for Maria it would appear to be 157 days. Logically it is reasonable to assume that Mary Ann's birth was incorrectly entered into the register by the minister, and was well before 9 Aug 1811.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Mary by comparing test results with other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Mary:
