Susan was born in 1813. She was the third child and second daughter of Thomas Aiken and Mary Barnett.
In 1834, she married Daniel Sargent, the son of Ezra Sargent and Hannah Rynes. Susan's sister Lovina would also marry into the Sargent family (6 years later), marrying a first cousin of Daniel.
Susan and Daniel settled in West Potton (most likely the area called "Dunkin") and had 12 children, as follows:
Simeon b. 1835; m. 1 Apr. 1856 Eunice Adelia Esty (at Richford, Vt.); d. 23 July 1909 (9 children)
Amanda b. 1837 d. 24 Jan. 1838 (bur. Ruiter Settlement Cemetery)
Martha b. 1839; m. 1 July 1858 Ambrose A. Mason (Troy, Vt.); d. 3 April 1875 (1 child)

Elvira Amelia, b. 1850; m. Charles C. Dodge;
Mary (or May) N. b. 1852
Mariah (twin) b. 1855, and
Zeviah (AKA Sophia) (twin) b. 1855; m. Abner Potter (4 children).
On the 1842 Canada East Census, the family included 4 children, of ages consistent with Simeon, Martha, Nathaniel and Ezra[3]. This census also includes an unmarried female over 45 years of age, which one surmises may have been Daniel's mother, given his father had passed away.
On the 1861 census, Susan and Daniel head a large household with their 9 youngest children, as well as their niece 18-year-old Susan Aiken (having just lost her own mother - she being daughter of Thomas Aiken Jr.)[4].
Susan died of typhoid fever in 1870 at the age of 57. This year of death is recorded in the 1871 census, which also shows her husband as a widower, supporting three of their children (Alonzo, May and Zeviah) and an orphaned grandchild Bertie Sargent, son of the late Daniel Jr.[5]. Daniel outlived her 21 more years. In 1891 he was living in Potton with his daughter Sophia (Potter) and her family[6].
Both Susan and her husband were buried in Ruiter Settlement Cemetery in Dunkin, Potton Township[7].
