An Elizabeth Ainley's birth was recorded as above in January 1816 with parents Joseph and Nancy at Quarmby-cum-Lindley, Yorkshire and this is beside Longwood where she always appeared to have lived.
In the 1841 census she was recorded as living at Stoops, Longwood, with her husband 'Savil' Haigh and two oldest children, John and 'Ann'.
In the 1861 census Elizabeth was at home with 6 children at 299 Stoops, Longwood, W Yorkshire. She was working as a 'domestic', the same as her two daughters Anne and Mary.
She was mentioned in the local newspaper in September 1876 as a peacemaker in a family row that got to court. Some of her sons were clearly a rough and sometime unscrupulous lot, in one case my great grandfather John abused her most unkindly if the quotation in the newspaper is correct.
In the 1881 census she was at home with her husband Saville at Longwood. When she died there two years later her death was reported by her son Ainley. Her age was reported as 66 whereas it appears it should have been 67 - but see birth item above.
