Biography

Clement Ainslie was born in Patna, Bengal, about 1867. He was the son of William Ainslie and Amelia Caroline Gouldsbury.[1]

When the 1871 census was enumerated, Clement and his siblings, Margaret, Helen, and Frank Alex., were visitors in the household of Lucy Molloy in Brighton:

When the 1881 census was enumerated, Clement was recorded as a scholar, aged 14, and born in India. Both Clement and his brother, Henry (age 11), were boarding as pupils in Newton Hall at Wolborough, Devon.[2]

On the 31st October 1895, Lieut. Clement Ainslie, Royal Engineers, married Eliza "Ellie" Mary Royse, daughter of Rear-Admiral Harvey Royse, at Walmer, Kent.[3][4][5]

Issue of the marriage:

  • Muriel Louisa Helen Ainslie (1897–1996);
  • Henry Harvey Clement (1898–1982); and
  • Dorothy Royse Ainslie (1903–1973).

Brigadier-General Clement Ainslie, Royal Engineers, died at Bristol in Gloucestershire, on the 21st August 1941, aged seventy-four years.[6][7]
