Mary began her search in order to join the Society of Colonial Names in 1908. Her research turned into a lifelong pursuit of collecting her families' history. The items in the lot include cabinet cards of her wedding portrait and wedding dress taken by Cincinnati photographers Aldrich & Ludeke, Landy, and Van Loo; a cabinet card of her husband and children photographed by Core in Cincinnati; a CDV of family members including John Ainslie, and former owner of the Appeal in Memphis; the 1844 last will and testament of her father, John Ainslie, who was an advocate in Maxpople but immigrated to Missouri sometime in 1835; several letters from publishers concerning the publication of John's book, Arungzebe; the inventory of silver plate, books, and other precious items from the estate of her uncle Adolphe M. Ainslie, a successful lawyer in Cincinnati and Memphis; a detailed history of the Butler family; copies of family silhouettes; sketches of family headstones; research letters and paperwork from a variety of museums and organizations; and other family accounts reaching naming family members as far as back as the Renaissance. “
