Biography
Thomas Ainsworth was born in Preston, Lancashire, England.
Thomas was born 1 March 1804. He was baptized 29 March 1804 at Preston, Lancashire.[1][2] He was the son of David Ainsworth and Alice Hatton.
On 24 May 1836, at Craigie, Ayrshire, Scotland[3], Thomas married Mary Laurie Stirling, the daughter of The Reverend Doctor John Stirling and his wife, Mary (McQuhae) Stirling.
About 1837, in Cumberland, Thomas purchased Cleator Linen Mills and a nearby house called "The Flosh" from Henry Birley. Thomas developed iron ore deposits on his property and also held shipping interests. He left a fairly substantial estate of £56,000.
Thomas passed away 28 June 1881 at his home, The Flosh, at Cleator, Cumberland. He was buried on 2 July 1881 in St Leonard Churchyard, Cleator.[4] His will was probated in November 1882 at Carlisle, Cumberland.[5]
