Nicolle Crossley-Holland states in Heys Pedigree that Elizabeth and Alice were twins, that their mother died in childbirth and that they were adopted by Ann Hey and James Pickop. Ann was a half sister of their mother. Crossley-Holland has their date of birth as January 1753 which is not when Alice Hey died but the adoption by Ann Hey and James Pickop is confirmed by the will of Mary Ward. Nicolle Crossley-Holland transcribed the wills of George Hey and Mary (Ward) Hey. The death of Alice (Hey) Ainsworth was mentioned in the 1753 will of George Hey, perhaps she took the year of the will as the year of Alice's death.
Elizabeth and Alice are mentioned in the will of their step grandmother Mary Ward as "now daughters of James Pickop" and are treated differently from Mary's biological granddaughters.
No baptism records have been found for Elizabeth and Alice but they are probably not available at this time. The Lancashire OnLine Parish Clerks has the following note regarding St. Anne's Church, Clifton. “The registers are still held by the Church and are not currently available for transcription.”
