Biography

William Aird migrated from Scotland to Canada.

William Aird (1824-1907) was born in Nigg, Ross-shire, Scotland on the 1st February 1924 ^[1] and christened there on the 8th February 1824. He was the oldest son of Donald Aird & Janet MacKay. ^[2]

The family lived in Rosskeen parish in 1841. William was 15 years old and an agricultural labourer ^[3] but they had moved to Glastullich in Logie-Easter parish by 1851 and he was still an agricultural labourer. ^[4]

William obviously had his sights set higher & wider. He travelled south where he married Elizabeth Doig on the 23rd May 1854 in Kemback, Fife ^[5] and almost immediately set off for Ontario, Canada,

They settled in Georgina, Ontario (then classed as Canada West) where they had 4 children by the 1861 census and William was farming. ^[6] Another 5 children arrived before the next census ^[7] and life continued on in much the same vein as the years passed. ^{[8] [9]}

By 1901 he had retired from farming which was continued by his son, William. ^[1]

He died in Georgina on the 4th July 1907. ^[10]
