Mary was born in 1899 in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of James Aitchison and Margaret (Gray) Aitchison.

1928 Eyemouth - marriage to James Robert Chapman
She died in Nov 1968. Gravestone inscription:
- James A Aitchison who died 13 May 1944 age 74 years
- also our mother Margaret Gray who died 27 Sep 1912 age 38 years
- also their daughters Mary Gray Chapman who died 26 Nov 1968 age 70 years
- Isabella Collin who died 10 May 1989 age 77 years
