Biography

A diary Maggie wrote survives. The first entry, dated Oct. 12, 1874, describes her work as a seamstress in Boston. She wrote of earning three dollars a week, plus 25 cents an hour for overtime work she took home. She returned to Lower Montague in 1882. The last entry in the diary, dated Nov. 12, 1882 states that business is poor, potatoes are only 16 cents a bushel, and there is still no coal for winter. They lived in Georgetown for a while, then moved to the United States.
