One of the prettiest weddings of the season took place at the Methodist Church, Coaticook, on Wednesday, September 13th, at six o'clock in the afternoon, when MISS EDITH FLORENCE, second daughter of MR. and MRS. EDWARD W. AKHURST, and DR. ALEXANDER J. CROMWELL, were married by the Rev. C. S. DEEPROSE. pastor of the church. The bride, robed in a gown of white silk muslin over white silk carrying a boquet <sic> of white roses was led to the altar by her father. The bridesmaid, MISS MYRTA AKHURST, wore a gown of white china silk and carried red roses, and was accompanied by little MASTER HERBERT AKHURST (nephew) carrying a basket of flowers. MR. E. B. FISCHER attended the groom and MESSRS. C. C. CHRISTIE and C. E. AKHURST (cousin) acted as ushers. MISS WINNIFRED NUNNS presided at the organ. The beautifully decorated church and the large number of persons present testified to the popularity of the young couple. After the ceremony the guests repaired to the home of the bride's parents where a dainty supper was served. The rooms were prettily decorated with asparagus, white asters and sweet peas. There were many tokens of esteem and good will in the choice and valuable wedding presents, among which was a beautiful chair presented by the employees of SLEEPER & AKHURST. The young men friends of the doctor presented him with a handsome, large, easy chair (solid oak upholstered in leather) and hung four fine pictures upon the walls of the new home. Instead of going away on the customary bridal tour, DR. and MRS. CROMWELL were escorted to their home on Elm Street by a number of the younger portion of the guests, where the merrymaking and congratulating were kept up until a late hour. The best wishes of the community are extended to them for a long and happy life. (written on clipping - 1905)
