Biography
William Thomas Akhurst was born in 1831 in Brasted, Kent, England. His parents were William Akhurst and Eliza (Wood) Akhurst,
William married Jane Coleman nee Saunders, a widow, on 9th Jan 1855 at the church of St. George the Martyr, Southwark, Surrey. They had at least eight children.
William died aged 42 in the Dec quarter of 1871 in Silvertown, London.

In the 1851 census he is a gardener lodging with a family in North Woolwich, Kent.
Despite being recently married, I cannot find the family in the 1861 census. Going by the birth of the children in the 1871 census, in 1861 the family was in Woolwich.
