Biography

Barnard Akin who's was born in France abt 1820 a brick layer, his real name was Barnard Etinne. He first showed up in Fremont Co Iowa when he married Elender Jane Warren. Her father was John Warren a local man on the 1860 census, 1850 census Greene Co Missouri. Elender died or was gone by 1860, Barnard Akin is listed as single. 1859 BLM land records Balnor Akin took up land in twp 68 section 27, 40 acres. Next land record was a purchase of 40 acres from a person named Balanger, same section. Name index had Akin or Acorn (alias Barnard Etienne). Feb 21, 1862 a power of attorney was given to George B. Murry and states the rent to be collected from Layfette McCain who lives on his land or anyone that is on his land. The next record is a Will, which is dated May 19, 1862 that gives Cynthia Akin his real estate 120 acres in section 27, names James Mcintosh as the administrator of his estate. Barney Akin & Mrs. Cynthia Lucas were not married until June 27, 1862. Probate file for Barnard Akin papers are gone, someone must have taken them at some time. HIs probate file is #40, probate #39 was filed Jan 1864, so Barnard Akin did not live long after January 1864. Probate was filed by Cynthia Akin June 6, 1864, naming Cynthia as the administrator. Daughter Caroline Akine ( married Smith) was born Feb 1863. No burial record found for Barnard Akin, could be Utterback Cemetery which is in the area he lived or on the home place.
