Biography

John was born in Aug 1822 in Caldwell County, North Carolina. He married twice. First was to Martha L Woffard (have also seen Wofford and Wafford) on 12 Oct 1851 in Union County, Georgia and they had 5 children. Then he married Nancy Rebecca Scroggs on 27 July 1893 in Union County, Georgia and they had two children together. He passed away after the 1900 census as you can see him in the census with wife Nancy and their 2 sons Robert L Akins, George L Akins and also Elizabeth Scroggs.

1860 US CENSUS:

J H Akins was enumerated at Post Office Rose Hill, Union County, Georgia for the July 20, United States Census, 1860. He was noted as born 1827 in North Carolina. He was a farmer and had $250 in value of real estate and $250 of personal estate as seen in the image of the original census. Also included in the household are female Martha Akins, male Francis M Akins, male Lewis P Akins, female E Leland C Akins and female Merrill S Akins.[1]

1870 US CENSUS:

John Akins was enumerated at Blairsville Post Office, Subdivision 126, Union County, Georgia for the June 24, United States Census, 1870. He was noted as born 1825-1826 in North Carolina and a farmer. He had $125 in value of real estate and $275 of personal assets as seen in this image of the original census. Also included in the household are female Martha Akins, male Francis M Akins, male Lewis P Akins, female Celenia Akins, female Maville S Akins and male John S Akins.[2]

1900 US CENSUS:

John H Akins was enumerated as head of the household in Militia Districts 1409, 1162, Owltown, Coosa, Union County, Georgia for the June 5, United States Census, 1900. He was noted as a farmer and born August 1825 in North Carolina. He had been married for six years and was an owner. Also included in the household are wife Nancy R Akins, son Robert L Akins, son George L Akins and mother-in-law Elizabeth Scroggs as seen in an image of the original census.[3]

John Akins was listed as the father of Francis Marion Akins who died February 20, 1921 in Union County, Georgia. The wife was listed as Sis Akins and the mother Martha Wafford.[4]
