Biography

Rose Albano is born around 1896-97 in Italy, the daughter of Raffaele Albano (also known as "Ralph") and Maria Botta.

On the SS Germania, sailing from Naples on 12 September 1906 and arriving in New York on 26 September:

24. Raffaele Albano, 42 (b. 1864), married, from Bracigliano, going to Springfield, Mass., where he’s joining his brothers Francesco and Giovanni at 2 Union St.[1]

On the SS Citta di Milano, sailing from Naples on 27 February 1907 and arriving in New York on 12 March, these passengers appear on the manifest:

20. Maria Carolina Botta, 41 (b. 1865), married, from Bracigliano, going to Springfield, MA, to join her husband, Raffaele Albano, at 5 Union St. Lines 20-24 are connected with a bracket.

21. daughter Filomena, 17 (b. 1889)

22. son Luca, 16 (b. 1890)

23. son Raffaele, 13 (b. 1893)

24. daughter Rosa, 10 (b. 1896)[2]

Two more younger sisters come unaccompanied in July.

In the 1910 federal census, taken 22 April, Raffaelo Albano heads a household at 286 Water St. There are two other families at this address, on this sheet, who appear to be unrelated. Raffaele is 46 (b. 1864) and his wife of 23 years (m. 1887), Maria, is 44 (b. 1866). She has had nine children, all living. Their children at home are a son, Luca (his name is hard to read here, but confirmed in his marriage), 19 (b. 1891), a son, Raffaelo, 16 (b. 1894), daughters Rose, 14 (b. 1896), Mary, 12 (b. 1898), and Assunda, 7 (b. 1903), and sons Sana (this is Salvatore), 3 (b. 1907), and Alberto, four months (b. 1910). The two youngest were born in Massachusetts and the rest of the family in Italy. The family immigrated in 1907. Raffaele, the father, is the proprietor of a grocery store. His two oldest sons are salesmen in a grocery store.[3]

Rose marries Patrick Albano, son of John Albano and Maria Liquori, on 15 August 1916 in Springfield. Patrick is 23 (b. 1893), and lives at 42 William St. He is a liquor dealer who was born in Springfield. Rose is 19 (b. 1897) and lives at 286 Water St. She was born in Italy. It’s the first marriage for them both.[4] Rose and Patrick are of unknown kinship. Cascio-10 11:21, 12 October 2017 (EDT)

Rose's father remarries in 1917.

In the 1920 federal census, taken 17 January, Rose's brother-in-law Frank Albano heads a household at 42 Williams St. He is 31 and this record calls him married. (He is a widower.) His daughters are Edna, four years and two months (b. Nov 1915), and Maria, three years and two months old (b. Nov 1916). They were all three born in Massachusetts.

Next listed in the household is Frank and Patrick’s mother, Maria Albano, 72, a widow, who arrived in the US in 1885. Patrick, 25, and his wife, Rose, 23, are the other two members of the household. Patrick was born in Massachusetts but Rose’s birthplace has been crossed out and not amended. Frank is the proprietor of a saloon. (This is hard to read.) Patrick is a plumber, and Rose is an operator in a clothing company.[5]

Patrick dies 6 May 1923 in Springfield at age 30. He is buried with his father and siblings in Saint Michaels Cemetery.[6]
