Roy registered for the Draft on 22 August 1944 in Fulton County, Georgia Later in life, he told his family that he was given a lower classification due to a problem with his nose. When he was younger, he broke his nose and could not breath through it properly. The army didn't want him because of this.

Albea, Decatur, Ga.; Sons, Roy Vernon Albea, Jr., Savannah, Ga., Charles Lee Albea, Lloyd Milton Albea and Larry Dean Albea, all of Decatur, Ga.; Daughters, June Elizabeth Albea Shearer, Decatur, Ga and Ruby Louise Albea Craft, Lawrenceville, Ga.; Sisters, Tootsie Clarey, Greenville, SC, Marie Wingard, Decatur, Ga. and Pansey Chandler, Greenville, SC; Seven Grandchildren and one Great Granddaughter and one Great Grandson.
