Biography

Joseph was the son of Paolo and Maria (Stangabiana) Albert. He was born on 10 Apr 1907 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

Joseph's WWII draft registration card (16 Oct 1940) described him as white with a light brown complexion, 5'8", 140lbs, black hair and brown eyes. He was 33 years old at the time.

Paolo (Joseph's father) owned and operated his own bakery in Reading, Pennsylvania. The bakery's name was Alberti's Bakery. For many years Alberti's competed with two other Sicilian bakers in the area, Tomasi and Vecchio. In 1941 Joseph decided to join forces with the two bakeries and Albert's Bakery became A.T.V Bakery. Vecchio sold his stocks in the 1950's and Tomasi retired in 2004 leaving the Alberti family as the sole owners once again. A.T.V is still open today and uses the same original recipes Paolo brought over from Sicily.

Miss Lucy Russo Weds Mr. Joseph Albert

Starting at 10 o'clock yesterday morning celebration of the wedding of Joseph Albert, 613 Laurel st., and Miss Lucy Russo, 337 S. Seventh st., lasted until last night. It was attended by more than 600 persons, and dinner was served for 250 guests. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Russo, 337 S. Seventh st. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Albert and a nephew of Matteo Albert.

Best man was Anthony Moran and maid of honor, Miss Fannie Russo, sister to the bride. The bridesmaids were the Misses Pauline Mingore, Grace Galuzta, Lucy Lamonica, Anna Albert and Lucy Lamonica. Ushers were Thomas Franco, James Luchesi, Kennth Frost, Anthony Volutza and Frank Distasio.

Joseph died on 2 Nov 1984 in Reading, Pennsylvania, after a 2 year battle with cancer. He was buried in Gethsemane Cemetery, Laureldale, Berks County, Pennsylvania.

Bakery president succumbs at age 77

Joseph Albert, president of ATV Bakery Inc., 36 S. Third St., died Friday afternoon at 5:30 in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient since Oct. 23.

Albert, 77, of 711 Spruce St., West Reading, had operated his own bakery at 613 Laurel St. and was one of the co-founders of ATV Bakery Inc. in 1941.

He was the husband of Lucy (Russo) Albert.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Paul and Marie (Stanespiano) Albert.

Albert was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter, Millie, widow of Lothar Reber, at home; a son, Paul J. of Shillington and five grandchildren.

Also four sister: Mary, wisow of Jake Patti, and Caroline, widow of Sam Marrella, both of Reading; Lillian, wife of Nick LaFata, Laureldale, and Jean, widow of Otto Walters, Pottstown.
