“Son of Joel Albion and Permelia, husband of Eliza Jane Linch, and father of John and Christa Philmore Albion.

In 1850, Solomon Albin, aged 18, was living in Islip, NY, with his parents, Joel Albin, aged 54, and Permelia Albin, aged 53, with sister, Amelia Albin, aged 15, and Martha A. Oakley, aged 8. His father was shown to be a fisherman. Living next door was his sister, Ann M. Baitman, aged 22, and her husband, Ephraim G. Baitman, aged 27, a coalier, and their son, Brigham L. Baitman, aged 1.

In 1860, his children, John Albin, aged 7, and Christie Albin, aged 5, were living in Islip, NY, in the home of their grandparents, Joel Albin, aged 64, a day laborer, and Permelia Albin, aged 64.

On January 13, 1862, Solomon Albion, aged 30, a wheelwright, of Suffolk County, NY, born 1832 in New York, enlisted into general naval service "E.M.R." at New York, for a term of three years. He had hazel eyes, auburn hair, light complexion and was 5' 91/2" tall. He had no previous naval service.”
