Katharina was born in 1866 probably in Goppisberg in Canton Valais/Wallis, Switzerland, the daughter of Leo Albrecht and Creszenz Mattig.
Katharina strangely appeared as daughter "Matilda" in her parents household in the 1870 census at Goppisberg.[1] That this was her is confirmed by her appearance as a maid in the 1880 census at Goppisberg in the household of Martin Minnig and Theresia Mattig.[2] The birthdate for both girls was given as 21 August 1866, so there can be no doubt that it was Katharina in the 1870 census. Then her obituary states that she was raised by an aunt after her mother's premature death, which fits with her living with Theresia Mattig in 1880.
Katharina married Johann Kummer in 1891, and they reportedly had 7 sons and 3 daughters.
She died shortly before 27 September 1939, when a newspaper ran an obituary.[3] It stated that she was 74 years old.
