Before enlistment in the Confederate Army, he was a deputy sheriff. He enlisted on 8 June 1861 in Randolph County, North Carolina.
Albright mustered into Company C, 10th North Carolina State Troops (Artillery) as a corporal, but was promoted to sergeant on 20 August 1861. On 26 July of the next year, Albright was promoted to first sergeant. Albright was promoted to second lieutenant (6 May).
Albright was present or accounted for through February 1865. He participated in military actions during the retreat to Appomattox where he was paroled on 9 April 1965.
