A soldier in his youth, he served in the army of Frederick the Great. Came to America in 1750, going to Christianspring to live. He taught music at the Boys' School in Nazareth. Until 1767, he and his wife had charge of the Sun Inn in Bethlehem. Came to Lititz in 1771 where he continued his trade of gunsmith. He and his family moved into the former Bullitsheck House. He sang tenor in the church choir.
