Military

Philip Albright served in the US Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1781, where he participated in several battles and skirmishes against the British under General George Washington and rose to the rank of Colonel by the time of his retirement. In 1774, in response to the mounting tensions with the British and in sympathy with the Bostonians who were killed by British troops, Philip was appointed at the Yorktown [PA] courthouse to a newly-established Committee of Observation. On March 19, 1776, Philip was appointed Captain of the First Battalion of the Pennsylvania Rifle Regiment, under command of Colonel Samuel Miles.[5]
Philip served as Captain of his regiment in the Battle of Long Island (27 Aug. 1776).
He also participated in the capture of the Hessians at Trenton (26 Dec. 1776).
He also served in the Battle of Princeton (3 Jan. 1777).[5]
Philip and his regiment participated in the Siege of Yorktown [VA] through October 1781, resulting in the surrender of British Gen. Cornwallis on 19 October.[2], p. 106.
According to the account of one of his daughters, Philip served in Washington's military forces for seven years and was present at the British Surrender of Gen. Cornwallis at Yorktown (VA). She also tells a story of his capture by the British and held along with many other prisoners on an old ship anchored in the Delaware River for several days; he eventually jumped ship and escaped, at one point even swimming across the Brandywine to avoid recapture. Philip apparently had a watch at the time, which he placed on a log and pushed ahead of him across the river to avoid its damage. [2], pp. 106-7.

Death

Philip Albright died on his farm along Cordorus Creek in York County, Pennsylvania USA on 2 April 1800. He died intestate; his eldest son, George Albright, submitted a petition to the Pennsylvania Orphans' Court on 24 August 1800 to dispose and dispense of Philip's estate to his surviving descendants.[2], p. 109.

Burial

Philip was buried in Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery located in York, Pennsylvania[6]
