Mathew's given name was John Mathew Albright. The only time he ever used this name was on the 1900 census. [1] All other documents for him simply use the name Mathew Albright although on some occasions his surname was spelled with a double "L", Allbright and in the 1850 census the spelling was Allright. [2] He was named for his great a grandfather, Mathias Meadows an Indian fighter on the Virginia frontier and veteran of the American Revolution.
Birth
In the 1860 Census for Boone County, Virginia Mathew Allbright was age 12 and stated he was born in Kanawha County, Virginia. He resided in the home of his parents William A. and Frances Allbright in Ballardsville, Virginia. [3]
Marriage
Mathew was married on Valentine's Day to Mary Johnson, 14 February 1873 in Boyd County, Kentucky. [4]
Residence
The couple moved to West Virginia to be near Mathew's parents and their young family is shown residing next door to Mathew's parents and brothers in the 1880 census for Lincoln County, West Virginia.[5] About 1885 Mathew brought his family to live on a farm near the boundary line between Boyd and Greenup County, Kentucky and near Cannonsburg where the parents of his wife Mary lived.
Occupation
A farmer all of his life Mathew apparently suffered a debilitating illness or injury because in 1900 he was listed as "crippled" on the census and no occupation was given.[6]
Religion
He and his wife Mary were also staunch members of the Danleyton Missionary Baptist Church whose motto was "Enter to Worship, Depart to Serve."[1]
Death
Mathew Albright died on 13 January 1918 in Greenup County, Kentucky. His death certificate provides the information he was born on 5 August 1846 in Virginia, the son of William Albright and Fannie Adkins. His occupation was Farmer. Mathew was buried in the Danleyton Cemetery.[7]
