Biography

According to her marriage record, Isabel Albro was the daughter of Peter Albro of West Greenwich, Kent County, Rhode Island. Based on the date of her marriage, she was probably born before 1767. Some family trees give a birth date of February 10, 1766 but all are unsourced.

She married Francis Brigg in in 1783.

Briggs, Francis, of Exeter, son of Peleg, and Isabel Albro, of Peter, of West Greenwich; m. by Benjamin Johnson, Justice, Nov. 11, 1783. [1]

Francis and Isabel Briggs were early settlers in Augusta, Ontario County, New York, which is today's Town of Potter in Yates County, New York. They were in Ontario County as early as 1790. [2]

Isabel gave birth to 10 children: Mercy, Jacob, Joshua, Francis, Lydia, Margaret, Vaughn, Sally, William and Peleg Briggs. [3] [4]

"Isabel" is buried in the Briggs Cemetery in Benton, Yates County, New York. [5] Early cemetery burial records give her death date as October 11, 1845. [6] However, this is inaccurate based on the fact that Francis Briggs remarried -- probably before 1820 -- and his second wife died in 1841. Therefore, at this point, it's believed there was a transcription error in the burial records and she died in 1815. More research is needed to confirm this.
