Biography

Samuel William Albro was born 1779 in Halifax, Halifax Co., Nova Scotia.

He married first in 1801, Ann Goreham. She was born in 1781 and died in 1811.

He married second 22 May 1813, Mary Foster. She was born circa 1791 in Dartmouth, daughter of Edward and Sarah Foster and died 6 Dec 1868 in Dartmouth.

On 31 Dec 1827, Samuel Albro, trader was residing in Dartmouth with 5 males [Samuel, Sr., Samuel, Jr., William, Edward, Robert], 6 females [Mary, Sr., A. Jane, Elizabeth, Frances, Ann, ?], 1 male servant and 1 female servant. 1 birth and 1 female marriage [Mary, Jr.] had occurred in the period ending 30 Sep.

In 1838, Samuel Albro, tanner was residing in Dartmouth with 2 males under fourteen years [Francis J., James H., sons of Samuel Jr.], 1 male above fourteen years of age and not heads of Families [Robert] and 6 females above fourteen years of age [Mary wife of Samuel Sr., Frances S., Anne, Frances wife of Samuel Jr., ?, ?]. This listing likely included the families of Samuel, b. 1779, his son Samuel, b. 1801 as well as 2 female servants.

Samuel died at Foster's Cove in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1842 and is buried in Christ Church Anglican Cemetery.

The 14 Sep 1842 edition of the Morning News states “d. Dartmouth, N.S., 9th inst., age 63, Samuel Albro, Esq., left family.”

  5. Ann Jane, b. 1811, m. 1830 in Dartmouth, James Hall, res. Guelph, Ontario in 1861, d. 1868. He m(2) Aug 1870, Jane Gifford Ferguson.
  6. Robert, b. 1814.
  7. John, b. 1816, d. 13 August 1823 in Halifax.
  8. Frances Sarah, b. 181_.
  9. Elizabeth, b. 181_.
  10. George Foster, b. 1821, d. 16 July 1823 in Dartmouth.
