Biography
James Albery was born in Pulborough in about 1790. He was baptised in Pulborough on 24 May 1791 the son of George and Hannah Albery.[1]
James Albery married Mary Freeman in Pulborough on 11 December 1810.[2]
In 1841 James and Mary are living on Lower Street in Pulborough, with four children. George (aged 20), Charles (aged 20), Mark (14) and John (11).[3] James is a saddler.
Their children all christened in Pulborough, Sussex, were:
Mary Ann Albury was christened 7 July 1811
Sarah Albury was christened 7 February 1813 but died in 1827
Harriett Alberry was christened 5 November 1815
George Albury was christened 10 January 1819
Charles Albury was christened 7 January 1821
Charlotte Albury was christened 14 December 1823 but died 1825.
Jane Albury was christened 5 February 1826
Mark Albury was christened 22 July 1827
John Albury was christened 31 January 1830
By 1851 James (aged 59), Mary (now aged 61) and son Mark are still in Pulborough. James is now a master saddler, born Pulborough. Mary was born in Slaugham.[4]
By 1861 James and Mary are living in Church Hollow, Pulborough with son Charles, and a grand daughter Mary aged 11.[5]
By 1871 James is now widowed and living on Lower Street in Pulborough. Has a house keeper/servant Anne Grevatt.[6]
Then in 1881 James is living in Propsect Cottage on the north side of Lower Street, Pulborough.[7]
James died on 8 April 1882 aged about 90, and was buried in St Mary's Pulbrough on 14 April 1882.[8] The record says he was 90 years and 11 months when he died, so would have been born May 1791.
