Biography

Fanny's birth was registered in the September quarter of 1857 (Fanny Allcock, mother's maiden name starts Br....)[1]. As this is two year's after Henry Alcock's (1826-1855) death, her father is unknown.

In 1861 Fanny (3, born Gainsborough) and her mother Amelia (a charwoman, 39, born Barton-on-Humber) were living in Caudwell's Yard, Church Street, Gainsborough [2].

Fanny (daughter of Henry Alcock) married Joseph Fletcher (son of Joseph) at All Saints church, Gainsborough, on 2nd June 1879 [3].

In 1881 Fanny (aged 24) and Joseph (a boiler maker, born Oakbrook, Derbyshire, aged 30) and their infant son Arthur (born Gainsborough) were living at Gainsborough with a lodger Thomas Scaman (23, born Horncastle, Lincolnshire, a joiner)[4]

In 1891 Fanny (34) and Joseph (40) were living at Darnall, Attercliffe Cum Darnall, West Riding, Yorkshire, with their children Arthur (10, born Lincolnshire), Charles (8 born Nottinghamshire), Frances (6 born Lincolnshire), Margaret (4, born Lincolnshire) and Joseph (2, born Linconlshire) [5].

In 1911 Joseph (60, born Derby, Derbyshire, a boiler maker), Frances (54, born Gainsborough Lincolnshire), and their children Joseph Fletcher Jun (22 born Gainsborough, a labourer in a malleable iron foundry) and John William (12, born Sheffield) were living in Gainsborough once more [6]. Later that year Joseph junior married Lily Atkinson in Lincoln [7].

Research notes

Registration of birth date tallies with later census dates. However, this would mean conception no later than September 1856, and although she gives her father's name as Henry at marriage, she is therefore not his daughter, if her father died in 1855.
