Biography

Emma Purnell ALDER was born in 1841 and christened on 3 October 1841 at St Mary's, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England[1]. Her parents were William ALDER and Harriet PURNELL.

The ALDER family were assisted immigrants from King Stanley, Gloucestershire, England, who set sail aboard the ship Medway. They departed Gravesend, England on 24 April 1849 and sailed into Geelong, Colony of New South Wales (later known as Victoria) on 8 August 1849[2][3]. The family consisted of parents William (age 29, Labourer) and Harriet (31) and their 2 children, Henry William (9) and Emma (7).

William DATSON and Emma Purnell ALDER were married on 22 December 1861 at Christ Church, Geelong, Victoria, Australia[4].

On the 22nd instant, by special license, at Christ Church, Geelong, by the Rev. H. J. Edwards, William Datson, of Adelaide, S.A., to Emma Purnell, only surviving daughter of William Alder, of Geelong, late of the Colonnade and Gloucester-road, Cheltenham, England.

She passed away on 20 December 1900 in Wellington, New South Wales, Australia[7]. Although she remarried some months before her death, Emma is buried with the DATSON surname at the Euchareena Cemetery, Euchareena, Dubbo Regional Council, New South Wales, Australia[8].
