Biography

Cross of St George
Anne (Aldersey) Eyre was born in England.

Anne Aldersley of St. Antholin's (b. c. 1612/3 , age 18 on 18 Mar 1630/1), dau. of Samuel Aldersey of Aldersey, Cheshire on 18/22 March 1630/1 at St Antholin, Budge Row, City of London.[1][2]

Ann(e) Aldersey is the 3rd child of:

  • Samuel Aldersey, a London merchant, son of Thomas Aldersey of Aldersey, Cheshire.
  • and Mary van Oyrle.

Oxford DNB:

"Eyre [née Aldersey], Anne (1612/3–1681), account keeper, was probably the third of seven children of Samuel Aldersey (d. 1633), a London merchant and haberdasher who had traded to Nuremberg, and his wife, Mary (d. 1628), daughter of Philip van Oyrle."[3]

Marriage

On 30 March 1630 Anne married Robert Eyre or Eire or Aire (b. 1610 - d. March 1654),[4] at Saint Antholin in Budge Row, London.[5]

Anne and Robert had four children.[6]. In birth order they are:-

  • Sir Samuel Eyre of Newhouse (bp. 26 Dec 1633 - d. 12 Sep 1698 Lancaster),[7] is well documented but his 3 sisters are less known.[8]
Sir Samuel Eyre of Newhouse was a judge. He died in Lancaster, where he was serving on the judicial circuit. Initially he was buried in that county, but his body was reinterred at St. Thomas in Salisbury, co. Wilts.
  • Margaret (bp. 1635 Salisbury, co. Wilts).
m. Thomas Hassell of London, merchant.[4]
  • Ann (bp. 1638 Salisbury)
m. William Stear of London, merchant.[4]
  • Mary (bp. 1640 Salisbury)
m. William Hitchcock of Cowesfield in Whiteparish, co. Wilts.[4]

Death

From the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Anne passed away in 1681. She is believed to have been buried on the 17 Mar 1681.at St Micheal's Church, Hathersage, Derby.[9]

There is insufficient information in the burial record to confirm that this is the right Anne Eyre. The year matches, but the location is burial ground is for an entirely different branch the Eyre family, which descend from Hope, co. Derby.

It seems highly irregular for Anne to be buried at Hathersage, co. Derby. Her husband was bur. St. Thomas, Salisbury, co. Wilts. The Eyres of Hathersage, co. Derby is a different branch of Eyres that descend from Hope, co. Derby, whereas this Anne belongs to the Eyres of Wiltshire which claim descent from Bromham, co. Wilts.
