Biography

Richard Aldersey came free to the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Birth 1827

Richard Aldersey was baptised on September 30, 1827 in Audlem, Cheshire, England. His parents were Thomas Aldersey and Mary Wellings. [1]

Marriage 1849

He married Elizabeth Sparks on April 29, 1849.[2]

Together they had the following children:

England Census 1851

In the 1851 Census, Richard was 28 years old and living in West Derby, Lancashire, England.[4]

Immigration 1852

Richard immigrated to Australia, aged 29 years. He was traveling with his brother-in-law William Sparks. [5]

Residence 1859

By 1859 Richard was renting a 2 room building in Hotham Place, Prahran, Victoria.[6]

Death 1898

He died on December 29, 1898 in Nepean Ave, South Brighton, Melbourne. [7][8]

His death was reported in the local newspaper, and his first name was misprinted as Robert:

SUDDEN DEATH. -- - An old man, named Robert Aldersea, aged 76, died suddenly at his residence, Nepean avenue, off South Road, South Brighton, on Thursday morning. He had been working in the garden in the extreme heat, and on his wife going out about 10 am saw him lying on the ground under a tree. She immediately sent for Dr. Aitclhison, of Brighton, who, on his arrival, declared that the man was dead. It was his opinion that he had died of heat apoplexy. Information was sent to Constable Curtin, who informed the Coroner of the event, who ordered a post-mortem examination of the body. Mt Aldorsea is an old colonist of 46 years, and lie has resided in South Brighton about 13 years. He was in tolerably good health, and he had not consulted a medical man for some considerable time.[9]
