Joseph was born before February 24, 1793, and was christened February 24, 1793, in Richmond, Yorkshire, England.[1] He was the son of James Alderson and Rose Kearton. He married Anna "Ann" Pennington on August 13, 1822 in Richmond, Yorkshire, England.[2] Joseph died on February 11, 1866 in Argyle, Lafayette, Wisconsin and is buried in Old Lafayette Cemetery.[3]
