Biography

Lloyd Harry was born on 8 October 1921, the son of Harry Harman Alderwick and Agnes Edith Alderwick nee Harris. ^[1]

From the Horowhenua Chronicle dated 18 May 1927, Pg 5 -
FIRE AT MUHUNOA.
FARMHOUSE DESTROYED
A five-roomed residence, situated at Muhunoa East, was totally destroyed by fire early this morning. It was the property of Mr G. Blenkhorn and was occupied by Mr H. Alderwick, manager of the farm. Mr Alderwick lit a fire, had a cup of tea and went out to get the cows this morning. At about 7 o’clock Mrs Alderwick was awakened by the heat and smoke and when she woke the three children the building was well alight and they had to make a hurried exit, clad only in their night attire. By the time Mr Alderwick arrived on the scene the flames had good hold and with the exception of one or two small items nothing was saved. The car shed and outer building were then found to be in danger, and with the assistance of water these were saved. The fire started in the kitchen and it is assumed that a defective chimney was the cause.
The insurances on the furniture was £200 in the New Zealand office. The house was also insured, but the amount was not available to-day owing to the absence of the owner from town. ^[2]

Harry Lloyd Alderwick, born 8 Oct 1921, attended Muhunoa East School from 11 Oct 1926 to 6 May 1927. Parent stated as H. Alderwick of Muhunoa East. He then moved to Levin. Loyd [sic] attended Levin Boys from 24 May 1927 to 17 Jun 1927. Records advise his removal from the roll was due to his death. His parent was stated as Mrs A. Alderwick of Salisbury St. ^[3]

Old Levin Cemetery records confirm Lloyd died on 15 June 1927, aged 5 ½ years. He was buried on 17 June 1927 [Row 26, Plot 56]. ^[4]
