Wedding HAMMOND — ALDOUS. A quiet but very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. John's Church, Taree, on October 27, when the Rev. W. Latham joined in the holy bonds of matrimony, Leslie Jack, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hammond, of 'Oakey Vale,' Ghinni Ghinni, to Alice, fourth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Aldous, of 'Orange Grove,' Oxley Island. The bride entered the church leaning on the arm of her father, who subsequently gave her away. She was beautifully dressed in white mariette over satin, beaded with seed pearls and silver lace, with silver shoes to tone, and wore the usual veil and coronet of orange blossoms. She also carried a bouquet of pink and white sweet Peas and asparagus fern, tied with pink tulle and white ribbon. The bridesmaid (Miss Elsie Aldous, sister of the bride) was dressed in mauve satin crepe de chene, and georgette and carried a bouquet of mauve and white sweet peas and pink roses, tied with mauve ribbon and tulle. Mr. Stuart Hammond, brother of the bridegroom, carried out the duties of best man. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a beautiful xylonite manicure set, and to the bridesmaid a gold armlet. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a lovely travelling rug. The reception was held at the rooms of Messrs. Russell and Smith, where the mother of the bride received the guests, numbering over eighty, in a dress of navy crepe de chene. The Rev. W. Latham presided and carried out the duties of chairman in an able and pleasing manner, and the usual toasts were honored. The toast of the "Bride and Bridegroom" was proposed by the chairman and suitably responded to by the bridegroom who, in turn proposed the "Bridesmaid," Mr. Stuart Hammond responding. The toast of the "Parents of the bride and bridegroom" was proposed by Mr. J. Emerton and responded to by the fathers of the bride and bridegroom, respectfully. The "Chairman" was proposed by Mr. J. E. Hammond and suitably acknowledged by Rev. W. Latham. The wedding cake, a beautiful three-decker, was from the establishment of Messrs. Russell and Smith. The presents were numerous and costly, and included several cheques. The honeymoon was spent in Sydney, Katoomba and Jenolan Caves. The bride's going away dress was kingfisher blue, French crepe de chene, with shoes and hat to match. Their future home will be at Moto. |
