Biography

Mary Jane Aldred was born about 1847 in Grey County, Ontario to Ezekiel Aldred and Mary Jane (Sirr) Aldred.

In 1851 Mary Jane Aldrid (age 6) lived in Bentinck, Grey, Ontario with her father Ezekiel (31, a farmer), mother (23, just listed as Mrs. Ezekiel Aldrid), and two younger siblings: Eliza (4) and Catherine (2).^[1]

In 1861 Mary Jane Aldred (age 14) lived in Bentinck with her father Zeakle (39, a yeoman), mother Mary (34), and seven younger siblings: Eliza (12), Cathrine (10), Wm (8), John (6), Hanswild (4), Janet (3), and Ann (1).^[2]

Maria Jane Aldred married James Fleming on 8 Jul 1863 in Grey County, Ontario.^[3] Her sister Eliza Aldred married James' brother Stewart Fleming later that same year.^[4]

Mary Jane and James had at least seven children: Ezekiel F (1864-1941), Thomas James Wellington (1866-1948), Catherine Matilda (1871-1951), Mary Jane (1873-), Martha Ann (1875-), Edith Agnes (1876-), and Janet Fernetta (1878-).

In 1871 Mary Jane Fleming (age 24) lived in Egremont with her husband James (29, a farmer) and their three children: Ezekiel (7), Thos. W. Wellington (5), and Catherine M. (1 month).^[5] The next household is that of Thomas Fleming, James' father.

In 1881 Mary Jane Fleming (age 34) lived in Egremont with her husband James (38, a farmer) and their six children: Eseekiel (17), Thomas Jas. (15), Catherine Matilda (10), Mary Jane (8), Martha Ann (6), and Janet Foinetta (3).^[6]

Mary Jane Fleming passed away in 1882, in Manitoba as the family made their way to start a homestead in the Northwest Territories.
