Biography

Abigail Aldrich was born on September 18, 1712 in Mendon, Worcester, Massachusetts Bay Colony.^[1] Her parents were Moses Aldrich and Hannah White.

She married Thomas Smith on April 06, 1732 in Mendon, Massachusetts.

Together they had the following children:

1. Mary Smith, m David Hogg^[2]
2. Caleb Smith
3. Hannah Smith, m. Gideon Mowry
4. Sarah Smith, m. Benjamin Sheldon
5. Moses Smith

She died 5 October 1789 in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

Her will was written on 11 September 1783 and proved on 4 January 1790 in Smithfield, Rhode Island.^[3] She mentions only her three daughters, Mary Hogg, Hannah Mowry, and Sarah Sheldon.

Her date of death is listed in the heading of her inventory which was recorded on 4 January 1790.^[3]

Her mother Hannah White Aldrich was the daughter of Joseph and Lydia (Copeland) White. Abigail's grandparents were of the Quaker faith. Her grandfather was a preacher in most of the colonies as far south as the Carolinas, and also on the Island of Barbados, as well as the British Isles where he lived for almost two years.
