Biography

Marriage took place 2 Oct 1779 in the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, Orange, New York.[1] Children:

  2. Bethiah Tryon, baptized 20 May 1781, First Presbyterian, Goshen, Orange, New York.[3] "20 May A. D. 1781 Baptized Bethiah born daughter of Eliud and Bethiah Aldrich his wife."
  3. Mehitabel Tryon, born 14 Apr 1782, Goshen, Orange, New York.[4] "14 Apr [1782] Mehhetabel, Daughter Eliud Tryon Born"
  4. Phaneale Tryon, born 9 May 1784, Goshen, Orange, New York.[5] "1784. May. 9. Phaneale [poss. Paaneale] dau Eliud Tryon born." NOTE: could this be the Pamelia mentioned in Tryon Family in America?

After Eliud's death in 1791, Bethiah remarried on 9 Sep 1798 at the First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, to Nathaniel Bayley (Bailey).[8] A "true copy" of the marriage record was provided as part of Bethiah's application for a Revolutionary War pension.[9] Her step-son Columbia Bailey testified in a deposition in support of his step-mother's application for a Revolutionary War pension that his mother, Margaret Bailey, died on or about the 15th of March 1798, and that his father Nathaniel remarried, to Bethiah Tryon widow of Eliud Tryon after that, and that his father Nathaniel died on or about 19th April 1816, and Bethiah had not remarried thereafter.[10]

At the age of 85 Bethiah applied for a pension in respect of her late husband Eliud Tryon's Revolutionary War service.[11] She was awarded a pension of $63.45 per annum.[12]
